Saturday 31st March 2018
The OCC club ride starts at 9am from outside the Society Café on St Michael’s Street in the historic centre of Oxford, so please arrive in good time for a prompt start and a little earlier if you are in need of a pre-ride injection of caffeine! The ride will end at Home on the Abingdon Road, where we can enjoy a coffee, cake and post-ride chatter.
It’s the 102nd edition of the Tour of Flanders on Easter Sunday and we think the route for our Saturday club run this week is itself a bit of a classic, entailing a 65 loop into eastern fringes of the Cotswold hills to the north of Oxford. There might not be a Koppenberg or cobbles to negotiate, but Ride Leader, Paul Antony, has factored in some punchy little climbs that will separate the Sagan’s and Gilbert’s from the rest of the bunch! Full details of the route, including a gpx/tcx download, can be found on Strava.
Expect an average speed between 17mph – 19mph overall, though the size of the group and weather conditions will have a bearing on tempo. We don’t stop at a café on our rides and Paul will ensure that no one is dropped and everyone is looked after. Please contact us if you need any clarification on the likely tempo.
If you are joining an OCC club run for the first time, then please make yourself known to Paul on arrival and we ask that you have a look at our How We Ride page in advance, which lists our calls, signals and how we like to ride as a bunch.
Please also note that the wearing of a helmet is mandatory and we ask anyone joining us for the first time to provide their ICE details and bring clothing necessary for the likely conditions, enough fuel/water to sustain you and ensure your bike is road worthy!
