Recurring Event (See all)
Saturday 26th August
TWO rides on offer today: the usual club ride and also a slower paced, shorter social ride.
The OCC Club Ride starts promptly at 9am from outside Ubyk on the Abingdon Road. Mike Lowndes will be leading the ride to Bourton on the Water and up the hill beyond – between 60 to 70 miles (95km-113km). There is no cafe stop.
The Social Ride will also start at 9am from Ubyk, though we will have a brief chat beforehand just to take everyone through the signals and shouts we use on our ride. The route will be about 45 miles and we will be sticking to quiet, rural roads as we head towards the village of Childrey on the northern edge of The Ridgeway. After a coffee stop at Childrey Stores – great cakes, coffee and welcome guaranteed – we will head along the northern edge of The Ridgeway before heading back to Oxford on some fantastic roads via Kingston Lisle, Charney Bassett and Appleton. Hopefully, if we time it right, we will rendezvous back at ‘home‘ on the Abingdon Road, with the club ride, for some more refreshments and some post-ride chatter!
Full details of the Social Ride can be found on this following Strava link. OCC members Tony Trafford and Dave Nash will be leading the ride, so when you roll up at Ubyk just ask to be pointed in their direction.
The Social Ride is aimed at cyclists who want a more sedate pace and less mileage and those who are new to group cycling and/or riding with a club. It’s a great opportunity to meet some of the members of OCC and learn more about the club.
If you are joining an OCC for the first time, then we ask that you have a look at our ‘How We Ride’ page, which lists our calls, signals and how we like to ride as a bunch.
Please also note that the wearing of a helmet is mandatory and we ask anyone joining us to leave their ICE details on arrival and bring clothing necessary for the likely conditions, enough fuel/water to sustain you and ensure your bike is road worthy!
