Saturday morning club ride

Saturday morning club ride

Saturday 20th June 2020

As we emerge out of lockdown, we are beginning to introduce measures that will offer some semblance of normality and allow OCC members and non-members alike the opportunity to link up for a weekly club ride, whilst observing government guidelines on social distancing.

We will be publishing a suggested route to ride each Saturday, incorporating a café stop roughly midway.  Non-members are very welcome to join us, especially those who have caught the road cycling bug during lockdown and would like to get a taste of riding with a club.  We can pair you up with one of our members, so you have company and can learn a little more about OCC.

Rides will start at 9am from outside Bike Zone (NB: closed on Saturdays until further notice), but you can grab a coffee from the Handlebar Café. You can chose to ride solo or in a pair.  (For the time being, the club has decided not to ride in socially-distanced groups of six, as suggested by British Cycling). Alternatively, you can aim to rendezvous at the café stop.

Details of this week’s ride is now available to view and download from STRAVA and the café stop is Childrey Stores at 38 miles/61km, just after the descent of the Ridgeway. The café currently offers takeaway hot and cold drinks and a selection of flapjacks. There is a pond with seating and a grass area just down the road. We anticipate being there between 11am-11.30am.

Our normal club rules apply, so please note that the wearing of a helmet is mandatory and we ask anyone joining us for the first time to provide their ICE details and wear/bring clothing necessary for the likely conditions, inner tubes and please ensure your bike is road worthy!
