Cyclist Friendly Cafes – Sherborne Village Shop

“Walk in a customer, Walk out a friend!” is the motto of Sherborne Village Shop, so it’s no surprise it has quickly become a firm favourite with OCC members after we used the café as the starting point for a club day trip to the western fringes of the Cotswolds earlier this year.

Expect a warm welcome from the staff, who serve up fresh coffee and phenomenal egg and bacon butties, using locally sourced, quality ingredients. Sandwiches, cheese on toast, pastries and cakes (aubergine and chocolate brownie, anyone?), daily specials and Ploughman’s are also available and the shop sells an array of tempting deli products, so keep a rear pocket free to take home some goodies.

There is limited seating inside, but if the weather is fine, then there is ample outdoor space in the raised garden, where bikes can be safely stored away from the road. The café is a hub for locals, cyclists and walkers and provides a great base for rides further west, but it’s a relatively benign 1½ hour ride from Oxford to the picture-postcard village of Sherborne, making this café the perfect place to rest up and recharge!
