OCC Social Ride – Saturday 12 August

Following the great turn out for our first two OCC ‘Social Rides’ in July, on Saturday 12 August we will once again be inviting road cyclists from Oxford and beyond to join OCC for a ride.

Our social  rides are shorter and slower paced than our usual club rides and primarily aimed at road cyclists who are relatively new to cycling or have little experience of riding in a group. A decent level of fitness is required, however, and a bike that is in good working order and fully road worthy.

The social ride offers an opportunity to get a taste of riding in a bunch and also a chance to get to know a little more about OCC and meet a few of our members too!

Full details of the ride are now available under the Events tab.  Several of our members will be on hand to offer advice and instruction on group riding skills and the pace will be sedate – we cycle at a tempo that is comfortable for everyone in the group.

But don’t take it from us – here are a couple of testimonies from the last rides: Richard Faulks from Witney, joined us for a 45 mile loop into the Cotswolds: “Great ride and great crew!” And this from Rich Burnham, from Abingdon, who joined us for the inaugural ride: “I’m definitely in for this next ride. The last one was excellent – everyone was well catered for on the ride, regardless of ability, and the club members were all very welcoming and supportive.”  Rich duly rolled up for a second helping!

The ride will start at Ubyk on the Abingdon Road at 9am and we will aim to be on the road after a quick pre-ride coffee and chat! Full details of the social ride, including the names of the ride leaders and route will be published in our Events section on our website a few days prior to the ride, allowing time to check out the ride details and, if you have a computer, download the route.

Don’t hesitate to drop us a line if you require any further information, but in the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you on the morning of Saturday 12th August.

And finally, please also note that the wearing of a helmet is mandatory and we ask anyone joining us to leave their ICE details on arrival and bring clothing necessary for the likely conditions, enough fuel/water to sustain you and ensure your bike is road worthy!

We would also advise that you take a look at our ‘How We Ride’ page, which lists our calls, signals and how we like to ride as a bunch. By the end of the social ride we hope that you will have an appreciation of the necessity and mutual benefits of riding cohesively as a group – the OCC way!
