On Saturday 30th September we will once again be inviting road cyclists from Oxford and beyond to join OCC for a ride!
The ride will be led by OCC Secretary, Brian Cooper, and will start at 9am from Ubyk. After a quick chat and a short introduction to how we ride as a group, Brian will be taking the group out on a 45 mile loop to the edge of The Ridgeway, with a cafe stop in the village of Letcombe Regis at roughly the halfway point. The route can be viewed on the following Strava link: OCC Social Ride 30th September.
Our social rides are shorter and slower paced than our regular Saturday club rides and primarily aimed at road cyclists who are relatively new to cycling or have little experience of riding in a group. A decent level of fitness is required, however, and a bike that is in good working order and fully road worthy. The rides are usually around 45 miles, with an overall average speed of 14-15mph.
The social ride offers an opportunity to get a taste of riding in a bunch and also a chance to learn a little more about OCC. Several of our members will be on hand to offer advice and instruction on group riding skills and the pace will be sedate – we cycle at a tempo that is comfortable for everyone in the group.
Enjoying a cafe stop at Bampton Nurseries during one of our August Social Rides.
Following the ride we will head back to our post-ride hub, ‘home’ on the Abingdon Road, where we will hopefully link up with the riders who have been out on the regular OCC club run.
And finally, please also note that the wearing of a helmet is mandatory and we ask anyone joining us to leave their ICE details on arrival and bring clothing necessary for the likely conditions, enough fuel/water to sustain you!
We would also advise that you take a look at our How We Ride page, which lists our calls, signals and how we like to ride as a bunch, but in the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you on Saturday 30th September!
